The Masters

Listen and Download

By the way, the following sound SO much better in headphones or high quality speakers.

This is the “we’re not worthy!” realm. See what the masters can do with a simple melody.

Duetto – Felix Mendelssohn, Op. 67, No.4. One of the Songs Without Words. Composed in Frankfurt in June 1836, soon after he had met his future wife. [1]. Strange, while playing it, I’ve always pictured a lovers’ conversation which turns into a spat which then resolves at the end, the husband reading the paper in his recliner while the wife happily flits around doing domestic chores or rearranging the furniture.

Spinner’s Song – Felix Mendelssohn, Op. 38, No.2. One of the Songs Without Words. Fun to play.

Concert Etude No. 3, “Un Sospiro” – Franz Liszt

Widmung (Dedication) – Franz Liszt’s arrangement of a song that Robert Schumann wrote for his wife Clara. A few years ago a piano tuning customer turned me on to it.

  1. Janis Luedke - one of your piano tuning customers

Loved the Duetto, and had not heard the Widmung for years – I sang it with my chorale group.

Your playing is so melodic and mesmerizing. Thanks for sending, Ron!

  2. Dear Ron,
Lovely playing of works by some of our favorite composers!
    Thank you!
    Hope you are doing well!

  3. Left and right hand seem to exchange roles in the first Listz , each content to play in the dominant or the second, each sustaining the harmony in their interplay. An interlude in an otherwise topsy turvy day much appreciated.
